Gardaí are treating as suspicious the death of a man whose body was found in a drain near Clara in Co Offaly.
The body was discovered at Kilbride at around 8.45am.
State Pathologist Dr Marie Cassidy is due at the scene this afternoon but it is believed the victim, who was recently released from prison, suffered a violent death.
A nearby caravan in which he was believed to have lived in was also found burned out.
The body has not been positively identified, but it is believed to be that of a 47-year-old local man who was released from prison last month after serving a three-year sentence for false imprisonment.
He has convictions for a number of offences including assault and had been under investigation, but not prosecuted, for alleged sex offences.
