A brother and sister being questioned about the murder of Thomas Horan in Dublin have had their period of detention extended by a further 12 hours.

Mr Horan was found dead on Monday in the bedroom of his apartment at Cambridge Court, which is a senior citizens' complex in Ringsend.

It appeared he had been strangled in the course of a robbery.

The 27-year-old man and the 37-year-old woman were detained yesterday afternoon.

Gardaí now believe the suspects involved in the killing left Mr Horan's home around 2am.

They have issued an appeal to taxi drivers who may have picked up a man and a woman in the Ringsend area between 2am and 5am last Monday to contact them.

Mr Horan died following a violent assault and gardaí believe the motive for the murder was robbery.

The two people in custody can be questioned until around 9pm today by which time they must be charged or released.

Gardaí have renewed their appeal for information.
