Irish flights delayed due to technical issues

A number of flights to and from Ireland have been delayed because of technical issues with air traffic control at Swanwick Airport in Southern England.

Intending passengers have been advised to check with their airline for updates in advance of travelling.

A spokesperson for Aer Lingus has said that around 10% of flights in and out of Ireland are affected.

Spokesperson Declan Carney said the systems issues at the National Air Traffic Control Service (NATS) in the UK has led to a number of flight delays and cancellations this morning.

The airline is currently making alternative arrangements to accommodate passengers on flights that have been affected.

Customers are requested to check the status of their flight before travelling to the airport and those affected by flight cancellations can change their booking to the next available flight free of charge.

Aer Lingus said the situation is "evolving" and will provide updates throughout the day.

A spokesperson for Shannon Airport said two flights have experienced delays this morning.

No flights have been cancelled.

Meanwhile Ryanair has warned there will be "significant flight delays and possible cancellations also".
