Colin Duffy charged with IRA membership

Prominent republican Colin Duffy has been charged with membership of the IRA.

Two other men were accused of possession of firearms with intent to endanger life or damage property in Belfast this month.

Rounds were discharged at officers' vehicles on the way to a loyalist protest in the city on 5 December.

Duffy, from Lurgan in Co Armagh, made no comment in the dock at Belfast Magistrates' Court.

There were cheers from supporters as the three men were led away amid a heavy security presence.
