A drug which is used to execute prisoners in the US has been stolen from a veterinary clinic in Celbridge, Co Kildare.
The burglary took place between 8.30pm on 5 November and 5pm 6 November.
One of the items taken, labelled 'Release', contains pentobarbital a very poisonous substance.
In the last few months, the US has been running out of this drug as European law refuses it to be used in executions.
The product was contained in a 100ml clear glass bottle with an orange and white label and the words 'Release' written in block capitals across the label.
It is believed that there was only 15ml of pentobarbital in the glass bottle when it was taken.
Gardaí and the Irish Medicines Board (IMB) have said they are very anxious that this item is recovered and are appealing for anyone who may have any information or know the whereabouts of this poison to contact gardaí in Leixlip on 01 6667800, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666111 or any garda station.
If anyone has consumed this product, they should seek immediate medical assistance.
They are also advised to contact the Poisons Unit at Beaumont Hospital 01 837 9966.
