Two dead in separate road crashes

Two people have died in separate road crashes in Galway and Leitrim. 

A man in his 60s died after a single-vehicle crash in Barna, Co Galway.

His car crashed into a traffic light in the village at around 5.40am. 

Meanwhile, a woman in her 60s was killed after being hit by a car in Co Leitrim. 

She was seriously injured after being struck just after 5pm yesterday on the R201 on the outskirts of Mohill.

The woman was taken to Sligo General Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

The driver of the car was uninjured.

Elsewhere, gardaí are investigating a traffic collision on the N66 Loughrea to Gort Road, approximately 3km outside Loughrea.

The crash happened at around 4.30am.

A 20-year-old man was seriously injured when the car he was a passenger crash into a ditch.

He was taken to University College Hospital Galway where his condition is believed to be serious.

Both driver and second passenger were uninjured.

The road is closed to traffic and diversions are in place. Forensic collision investigators have been notified to attend the scene.
