Specialist Garda teams are continuing detailed searches in Clonee Co Meath after a man's arm was found on open ground.

The discovery was made around 4.30pm yesterday by a person out walking.

The area was sealed off overnight before intensive searches began in daylight.

Officers are concentrating in fields and woods around a stream at The Mayne which marks the Dublin-Meath border.

Gardaí believe the remains are of relatively recent origin and tests at Navan morgue have revealed that the arm belonged to a man.

Fingerprints have been taken from the limb and Garda databases are now being checked for any matches.

DNA samples have also been taken and will be compared against records of people missing.

Specialist cadavar dogs are being used to try to detect any other human remains in the area.

Gardaí at Ashbourne are appealing for anyone with information to contact them.
