The man whose partial remains were found in a field in Clonee, Co Meath, has been named as Christopher Gaffney from Blanchardstown in Dublin.

The 37-year-old who had drugs-related criminal convictions had been reported missing last month.

Garda teams have resumed searching for other body parts including a limb and the victim's head.

A major investigation began on Friday evening after a walker found a human arm on open ground.

The discovery was made in an area known as The Mayne where a stream marks the border between Dublin and Meath.

Other remains were found after a massive search operation began in daylight with specialist dogs.

Post-mortem examinations were carried out on the remains by the Deputy State Pathologist, Dr Kalhid Jabbe.

A Garda Family Liaison Officer has been appointed and is currently working with the family of the deceased.

Gardaí are appealing for information from anyone who may have seen suspicious activity recently in the Kilbride/The Mayne area.

The area is close to the Porterstown Road in Clonee.

People with information are requested to contact the incident room at Ashbourne Garda Station on 01-8010600, the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.

Gardaí say all information will be treated with the strictest confidentiality.
