Minister for Children Frances Fitzgerald has confirmed that she has received the Health Service Executive reports on the removal of Roma children from their families.
In a statement, she said the reports have been forwarded to the Ombudsman for Children.
A two-year-old boy was temporarily removed from his family in Athlone last month, while a seven-year-old was taken from her family in Dublin amid concerns raised over their identities.
The children were removed from their Roma families after gardaí used their powers under the Child Care Act and placed them in HSE care.
The minister said: "I look forward to the outcome of the Ombudsman for Children's independent investigation of the involvement of An Garda Síochána and the HSE in these cases.
"In respecting the independent investigations of the Ombudsman for Children, which will now take their course, I do not intend at this stage to comment in further detail on the reports received from the HSE or to place these reports into the public domain."
She said she looks forward to the issues of public concern being comprehensively addressed.
