Firms hoping to create over 300 jobs

More than 300 jobs, the bulk of which are technology-related, have been announced by a number of companies.

100 new positions are to be provided by Dublin-based marketing firm Acorn over the next five years.

The expansion, which is supported by the Department of Jobs through the IDA, will see a range of digital and IT jobs created, along with management, HR and finance roles.

Acorn's Dublin office is to become a creative services hub for all markets outside the US served by its parent, Epsilon.

Elsewhere, over 200 jobs are to be offered by 30 companies backed by the Dublin Business Innovation Centre (DBIC) during the next 12 months.

The Government-supported innovation centre has in recent years helped well-known companies, such as Havok, Brown Bag Films and MicksGarage, begin trading.

Over the years it has helped over 500 start-ups with advice, support and funding and assisted scores more to expand.

Marking its 25th birthday, the organisation said almost all of its current clients, who are mostly technology companies, intend expanding during the next year, creating 218 new jobs.

Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation Richard Bruton welcomed Acorn's announcement.

He said: "A major part of the Government's Action Plan for Jobs is seeking to deepen and develop the impact of multinational companies based here, and in the past two years the sector has shown a net growth of over 12,000 jobs.

Acorn Chief Executive Phil Cottier said: "We plan over the next five years to recruit 100 new employees in a variety of skills, from creative to account management to IT and HR.

"All will be assisting our EMEA based clients and servicing our offices in Paris, London and Sydney but working in our Dublin hub."
