Skeletal remains discovered at Killakee Mountain in Dublin last week have been identified as those of Elaine O'Hara.

The 36-year-old Dublin woman went missing in August 2012.

Ms O'Hara was seen leaving Belarmine Plaza in Stepaside on Wednesday 22 August.

She was later seen close to the railway footbridge at Shanganagh Park in Shankill.

She had been unwell and had only recently been discharged from hospital.

Her father reported her disappearance to gardaí and her car was found at Shanganagh Cemetery at 3pm on Friday 24 August.

The remains were discovered last Friday in a private forest by a woman out walking her dog.

The cause of death has not been established and gardaí are currently treating her death as suspicious.

They are trying to establish how she got to Killakee Mountain, which is about 15km from where she was last seen alive.

They have issued an appeal for anyone with information to come forward.
