Man's body found on beach in Co Meath

The body of a man in his 40s has been discovered on a beach in Co Meath.

It remains at the scene on Mornington Beach and the area has been sealed off.

The body was found by a woman out walking at around 9.30am.

Gardaí were called and the area has been preserved as a crime scene. They are treating the man's death as suspicious

The victim sustained injuries to the head and detectives believe he was assaulted. He was found partially clothed near an inlet to the River Boyne.

His identity is not yet known.

A State pathologist is due to carry out a preliminary examination before a post mortem examination later today.

The Garda Technical Bureau will conduct a forensic examination and a case conference is due to be held this afternoon at Ashbourne Garda Station.
