A man has drowned in the River Shannon in Co Westmeath.
The body of the 51-year-old was taken from the water at Town Bridge in Athlone at 11.30pm last night.
It is believed he may have slipped and fallen into the river.
His body was recovered by the Athlone sub aqua team and the RNLI.
