Minister for Social Protection Joan Burton has said she is looking forward to a parliamentary inquiry to hear what happened in the run- up to the financial crash under the government led by Brian Cowen
Referring to the former Taoiseach's interview to be broadcast on TG4 on Thursday, Minister Burton said it was important he had made himself available.
Speaking at Humbert Summer School in Ballina, she said Mr Cowen and his government left behind a legacy that her government is still trying to resolve.
She questioned why no action was taken when she said clear warning signs were given to the previous government.
Ex-Fianna Fáil minister of state Dara Calleary welcomed that Mr Cowen had a chance to give his version of events.
He said Mr Cowen made every effort to deal with situations as they arose.
Mr Calleary acknowledged Fianna Fáil made mistakes and has apologised.
He also said his party moved to limit the damage and it was right that they paid the political price.
