Troubles document injunction case adjourned

A legal case over the disclosure of inquest documents relating to three murders during the Troubles has been adjourned.

Northern Ireland Secretary of State Theresa Villiers had taken legal action blocking the circulation of documents to the families of the dead.

The case was adjourned to allow the Stormont departments involved and Ms Villiers to resolve the issue between them.

The issue of statutory construction is now to be resolved to determine who has ultimate responsibility to take decisions to disclose legacy documents to the families.

Minister for Culture Carál Ní Chuilín, who is the legal keeper of public records, delivered case papers relating to the deaths to a law firm and a victims' group last Friday.

Within hours, Ms Villiers and Chief Constable Matt Baggott obtained an injunction to stop the papers being given to the families of the dead.

Kevin Winters Solicitors, representing the families, said they would uphold the injunction until the case is back before the court next month.
