A small tornado has been spotted off the coast of Galway.
The funnel cloud, also known as a water spout, was photographed in Salthill.
The European Storm Forecast Experiment known as ESTOFEX, has issued a level 1 threat, which corresponds to a 5%-15% chance that a severe convective storm will occur within a 40km radius of Ireland.
The group of European meteorologists issue storm forecasts on a daily basis which address the threats posed by severe storms in Europe.
Forecasters say weather conditions in the west of the country will be capable of producing tornadoes and large hail.
Meanwhile, Met Éireann has issued an alert, warning of heavy rainfall across the country.
Up to 70mm of rain is predicted in Munster and Connacht with the threat of localised flooding.
A thunder warning is also in place for Cork.
Met Éireann has forecast torrential downpours with severe thunderstorms from 3pm today until 6am tomorrow.
