Irish Water Safety, gardaí and coastguard units around Ireland have issued an appeal to people to be extra vigilant if taking part in water-based activities over the weekend.
The warning comes after five people lost their lives by drowning over the past few days.
In the latest incident, a 17-year-old boy drowned in Co Clare yesterday evening.
He had been swimming with a group of friends in the canal at Ardnacrusha when he got into difficulty.
The warm weather is set to last over the weekend, with Met Éireann forecasting temperatures of 28C across parts of Munster and Leinster.
