Three out of five people who have taken part in the Government's JobBridge scheme have secured full-time employment, with the Government claiming the internship scheme has been a success.

The figures are based on an evaluation by consultants INDECON Economic, which show that 61% of interns progress to paid employment.

The evaluation report also found that 96% of host organisations would recommend JobBridge to another employer and 89% of interns stated that JobBridge had given them new skills.

The results of the evaluation were announced by Taoiseach Enda Kenny and Minister for Social Protection Joan Burton at the Dublin headquarters of LinkedIn, who have taken part in the scheme.

The Taoiseach said: "The fact that three in five interns gain employment following the scheme is a testament to the potential that exists in providing new work activation services to jobseekers and employers."

Meanwhile, new figures from the Central Statistics Office show that on a seasonally adjusted level, the number of people signing on the Live Register fell by 100 in April.

This brings the seasonally adjusted total on the Live Register to 426,900.

The CSO said that the standardised unemployment rate last month was 14%, unchanged from the March rate.

In unadjusted terms, the CSO said there were 417,593 people signing on the Live Register in April 2013, which was an annual decrease of 12,408 or 2.9%.
