Gardaí are questioning five men in connection with the murder of a Co Louth man who had links to dissident republicans.
Peter Butterly was shot dead in the car park of a pub in Co Meath yesterday afternoon.
A post mortem is due to be carried out today.
Gardaí arrested five men within minutes of the shooting.
Four men, all aged in their 20s, were in a car that was intercepted close to the car park of the Huntsman Inn, where the shooting took place. A handgun was also recovered.
The fifth man, who is in his 40s, was arrested a short time later, also close to the pub.
Mr Butterly, a married father-of-three, was shot several times and died at the scene.
Deputy State Pathologist Dr Khalid Jabbar will conduct the post mortem at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda.
Gardaí are examining the possibility that Mr Butterly's murder is part of an ongoing feud.
They renewed their appeal for anyone with information on the incident or anyone who was in the area of the Huntsman Inn between 1pm and 2pm yesterday afternoon to come forward.
