A man has pleaded not guilty to the murder of Louth woman Jill Meagher at a committal hearing in Australia.
Adrian Bayley, 41, of Coburg, pleaded guilty to one count of rape of Ms Meagher, and not guilty to two other charges of rape.
Ms Meagher, who worked for Australian broadcaster ABC, went missing in the Brunswick area of Melbourne during a night out last September.
Her body was discovered six days later buried on the outskirts of the city.
My Bayley is accused of grabbing her on a busy street and dragging her into a laneway just minutes after she left a bar for the short walk to her home.
The court was told Mr Bayley strangled Ms Meagher and left her body in the laneway while he went home to get a shovel and his car so he could bury her outside the city.
The prosecutor said Mr Bayley told police in a lengthy interview that he raped and strangled her and led them to her body.
Ms Meagher's husband was in court to hear Mr Bayley admit to raping his wife, but left the room soon after.
