Kenny urges unions to return to Croke Park talks

Written By Unknown on Rabu, 20 Februari 2013 | 22.40

Taoiseach Enda Kenny has urged unions who have withdrawn from talks on extending the Croke Park Agreement to return.

Mr Kenny told the Dáil that everyone who has a concern about proposals should "get back in there where the discussion actually takes place around the table".

He also stressed that the negotiations were ongoing and nobody could say what the final result would be.

Mr Kenny was responding to Fianna Fáil leader Micheál Martin, who said there was growing concern that an undue burden was being placed on emergency staff.

Mr Martin said morale was very low in the Garda Síochána and is reaching a "tipping point".

He said it is in "dangerous territory" and the Taoiseach needed to be aware of that.

Mr Kenny said he knew morale was very low, but said part of that was the failure of the previous government to supply adequate resources.

Mr Martin said it is essential that there is a fair and just outcome to the pay talks.
