When the category of food and non-alcoholic beverages is looked at in more detail, the CSO report shows that in September potato prices rose by 4.4%; dried fruit and jams rose by 4.3% and chocolate prices increased by 3.8%.
Prices fell for pizza and quiche by 4.7%, and the price of butter was 4.1% lower.
Among alcoholic beverages, beer increased by 3.1%; spirits by 1.8%; while wine prices fell by almost 1%.
The cost of medical products fell slightly between August and September - condoms, pregnancy test kits, first aid kits and plasters are among the items in this category.
Major household appliances say minor price increases, while small tools and tableware rose slightly.
In the Transport sector airfares fell by almost 17%; but bus fares rose by 5.7% and the price of petrol, diesel and bicycles were also higher.
