The 37-year-old vet, who is originally from Clonlee in Co Offaly, has been missing from her home in North Wales since last Friday.

Police have drafted in specialist teams and underwater search teams to search a quarry pool.

A member of the public contacted police yesterday evening regarding the discovery in Pinfold Lane, Alltami, near Mold.

The vehicle was found approximately 3km from Catherine's home in New Brighton.

Det Supt John Hanson of North Wales Police said: "Catherine is still missing and her last known sighting is at 8.39pm on Friday 12th October 2012 when she was seen on CCTV leaving Asda Supermarket in Queensferry."

A 46-year-old man who is from Gwynedd continues to be questioned on suspicion of the murder of Ms Gowing.

Officers have been given an extension until this evening to continue their questioning.

Police say the man is known to Ms Gowing, who has been working as a vet in the town of Mold in Flintshire for the past two years.

A work colleague became worried last weekend when she received part of a text message from Catherine.

Ms Gowing's sister Emma, who has travelled to Wales, described her as a kind, sensitive person who is passionate about animals and she appealed to local people to help find her.
